We had a great meet at the Patriot Games in Buellton on Saturday, May 25. Some mighty fine lifting! The Buellton Community Recreation Center is a terrific place to have a meet. I'm hoping the venue will be available for future events.
Thirty-three APF California state records were set along with 18 American records. The women really kicked butt with all six competitors establishing new marks. Mary Case, lifting as a Masters 50-54, broke state records in each event and the total. Some of those records were over 15 years old.
Eddie and Ken did a superb job hosting the Patriot Games. Since it was the Memorial Day weekend, veterans were honored with a moment of silence. Mary Tawzer's decorations added a patriotic flair to the venue.
Meet results have been posted.

You go girls!!! I got an email from a friend who said there were a lot of seniors lifting at this meet. That's great to see. No reason why men and women in their fifties, sixties, and seventies have to be couch potatoes. Apparently, competing is keeping several seniors active...which is a good thing.
Oh, by the way, I was told that the judging was fair and consistent. No high squats...as it should be. Congrats to the refs whoever they were.

This is nice to hear. I'm going to have to renew my APF membership and lift in some of these meets. Lifters tell me APF meets in California are lifter friendly and a lot of fun. Now if I could just locate my singlet...

Thank you to all the lifters for joining us at the Patriot Games. It was great to see so many new faces and some old friends there. Another great thank you to Eddie and Tina for their hard work organizing the meet for us. We can't express how much we appreciate all their hard work. We would also like to thank the Buellton Recreation Center for allowing us to use their facility. It was perfect for our event. Thank you to Bob and Kim Packer for stepping in and helping us out at the score table and announcing duties. They both did a great job. We hope to have three additional meets in the northern California area next year. Stay tuned for updates on that! Thank you to Steve and Scot for their continued support and help. We know we can always count on them to be there for us. Thanks to our spotters and loaders, Clay, Charlie, Scot, and David (for standing in). We hope we'll see many more lifters at our meets in the Solvang/Buellton area. Tell your fellow lifters about the APF and how they will be treated fairly and honestly but most of all, have a great time! Thank you ALL! Kenny and Mary Tawzer
