Hi Scot, Thanks for answering my last couple of posts. I have a question about max weight percentages. I once read that you can only train at more than 90% of your max for 3 weeks at a time, and if you continue for longer than that, your strength starts to decline. Have you found this to be true? I like to train heavy with low reps but I'm always worried I'll place a prolonged stress on my connective tissue so I just wanted to know a safe length of weeks to train heavy and how long I have to wait before training heavy again. Thanks.

i am a much more inexperienced lifter than many on this forum but i typically like to train at 90-95% of my max all the time during a 10 week cycle. i have noticed that around week 8 or 9 i will plateau in some lifts but for the most part, the strength gains are constant. I would like to hear what mendy has to say about this as well.

CHRIS, YOU CAN ONLY TRAIN WITH MAX WEIGHTS FOR A SHORT TIME. AFTER A WHILE YOUR CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TAKES A HIT. THAT'S WHY WE RAMP UP FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME LEADING UP TO A MEET, THEN TAKE A BREAK. THE WORKLOAD IS VARIED, NUMBER OF SETS, TOTAL NUMBER OF REPS. NUMBER OF REPS IN A SET RARELY EXCEED 3. ALSO, THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRAINING CYCLE AND A MEET CYCLE. YOU'VE SEEN IN MY OTHER POSTS HOW I WOULD RAMP UP FOR A RAW MAX. EACH PERSON IS DIFFERENT. SOME GUYS IN MY GYM CAN GO LONGER, SOME SHORTER CYCLES. ONE OF OUR LIFTERS WAS PEAKING TOO SOON FOR A MEET. WE DISCOVERED THAT HE DOES WELL WITH 8-10 WEEK MEET CYCLES. THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.
