Hi, Scot. I was wondering if you train women differently than men in powerlifting, especially the bench?
I met you briefly at the FitExp and appreciate your taking the time to speak with me.

HEY, STEPHANIE. THANKS FOR STOPPING BY MY BOOTH AT THE FITEXPO.
AS FAR AS WHETHER WOMEN SHOULD TRAIN DIFFERENTLY THAN MEN IN POWERLIFTING, THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS "NO". MEN AND WOMEN'S MUSCLES PERFORM THE SAME FUNCTION. THE ROAD TO STRENGTH AND TECHNIQUE IS THE SAME FOR BOTH. MY WIFE, MARICELLE, AND DAUGHTER, JADE, TRAIN WITH THE GUYS USING THE SAME REP/SET SCHEMES, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BEING THE WEIGHTS USED.
I ASSESS EACH TRAINEE ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. FOR EXAMPLE, IS HIS/HER BODY TYPE BETTER SUITED FOR A REGULAR PULL OR A SUMO STYLE? SHOULD THEY USE A BENCH GRIP ALL THE WAY OUT TO MAXIMUM (81 CM) OR WILL THEY DO BETTER WITH A SLIGHTLY NARROWER GRIP? THE POINT IS TO MAXIMIZE EACH CLIENT'S POTENTIAL.
