Scot,
I'm another long-time fan.
When doing sets of raw triples on the bench or board press, where would you start a pre-contest program? Easy (65%) or harder (80-85%+)?
What do you think about Westside-style training, changing your max-effort exercise every week or two?

(for me) 8 week training cycle usually starts at 82.5% and then add 2.5% a week.
for a 12 week training cycle, wk1 - 75% wk2 - 75% wk3 - 75% wk4 - 75% wk5 - 82.5% wk6 - 85% wk7 - 87.5% wk8 - 90% wk9 - 92.5% wk10 - 95% wk11 - 97.5% wk12 - 100%

HI, MIKE. THANKS FOR JOINING THE FORUM. I WOULD FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH TIME THERE IS LEADING UP TO THE MEET AND THEN GO BY 10-POUND INCREMENTS PEAKING AT THE MEET.
CONCERNING WESTSIDE, IT NEVER WORKED FOR ME. IT CAUSES OCCASIONAL INJURIES WHEN USING CHAINS AND BANDS DUE TO THE STRESS ON THE JOINTS. WE USUALLY STICK TO ONE EXERCISE FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME. BANDS AND CHAINS FOR SQUATS AND DEADLIFTS DO WORK WELL BECAUSE THE JOINTS ARE BIGGER.
