Hi Scot, I'm a huge fan of yours, and I'm a 22 year old college student at the University of Maryland. I bench raw and I'm racing an offensive lineman on the Terps to see who can bench 500 pounds first (I'm 220 and have hit 435 for a double and he's 312 pounds and has hit 465 for a single at this point). I wondered about your assistance work though. You said you train your brachialis, lats, and rear delts for assistance, but why not front delts? And, since I'm relatively new to the whole powerlifting thing I wanted to know what training the rear delts does for your bench. On a side note, I read on powerliftingwatch.com a few weeks ago that you've been able to hit over 800 pounds raw in the gym, is that really true? If so, when will you be competing raw next. Thanks. -Chris Ziesat

THE WAY I BENCH PLACES A LOT OF STRAIN ON THE FRONT DELTS. TO PERFORM ADDITIONAL FRONT DELT WORK WOULD BE OVERTRAINING. REAR DELT TRAINING (AND ALL BACK TRAINING) HELPS IN YOUR SETUP AND THE STRENGTH OFF THE CHEST THROUGH THE LOCKOUT.
